What camera do I need?
The first thing to say is that for all the experiences, you need a decent digital camera.
A digital SLR with exchangeable lenses is the preferred camera, and is essential for the in-depth camera training. But for the ones where the emphasis is more on location – such as bird shoot or wildlife shoot – then a good quality digital camera will probably do provided your camera lets you control the aperture and shutter speed. You don’t have to know how to do it as they’ll show you that on the course, but at least your camera has to have the functions there.
A note of caution: even though some of the experience descriptions suggest that a basic automatic digital camera, or even a mobile phone will do the job, it won’t. If you haven’t got a proper digital camera with control of aperture and shutter speed, then not only will you feel like a prat when everybody else has got one, but much of the advice and instruction you’ll get will be wasted on you. So don’t just turn up with your mobile phone and expect to take wonderful pictures. And as we say, the preferred camera for serious students is a digital SLR.
What types of photography courses are there?

The photography classes available range from a few hours touring the sights of London with the chance to photograph some of the major landmarks, right up to an intensive two day photography masterclass where you will be able to go in depth into the secrets of mastering a digital SLR, photographing a variety of subjects in a variety of conditions. Just check them out and pick the one that fits your needs.

You’ll share your course will a small number of other keen amateur photographers, which we think is a good thing as you’ll learn from what they’re doing and asking as well as learning from your own questions. There’s nothing like the interchange of experiences and information for bringing your learning on in leaps and bounds.

There are camera courses all round the country, so there’s sure to be one not far from you – though remember that if you want to shoot pictures in a safari park, then you will need to go to the safari park to do it!
You’ll see from the descriptions what the emphasis of each photo experience is. So if it’s a photograph wolves or snap birds day, then there’s going to be less of the technical stuff and more opportunities for taking pictures and being hands on.
On the other hand, if it’s a full day “Master Your SLR” experience, then you know there’s going to be a lot more advice and instruction amongst the hands on stuff, so you’ll learn a lot more and have a lot more experience and knowledge to take away with you and use in your future photo activities.
